Stainless Steel: a path to high quality "cachaça"
ArcelorMittal Inox Brasil presents an integrated solution for the production of high quality cachaça (white rum) by means of a broaden use of stainless steel. This design comprises reservoirs, preheating tanks, condensers, fermenting tubs and homogenization tanks made of stainless steel that can substitute similar products made of cement, wood, plastic and other materials.
These components demonstrate the possibility to use stainless steel in the production process of cachaça, therefore assuring quality improvement and competitive prices. Stainless steel equipment is the most suitable one for the production of high quality cachaça. Stainless steel is resistant to corrosion and has a very smooth surface, which prevents the building up of dirt on tank surfaces. Another benefit is that it is easy to clean, thus affording a modern and hygienic aspect to the facilities. Stainless steel is a perfect material for the following equipment: settling tanks, homogenization tanks, fermenting tubs, preheating tanks and condensers, intake boxes and storing tanks for cachaça.
The quality of cachaça can be compromised by contamination resulting from equipment and reservoirs used in the production process that are made of unsuitable materials.
Fermenting tubs and reservoirs made of plastic, carbon steel, asbestos and wood can contaminate the product. Since these materials have porous and rough surface they are harder to clean, resulting in the growth of bacteria that compromise the quality of cachaça.
In addition to the technical properties described above, the stainless steel equipment and components proposed have highly competitive prices. This was possible by adopting an integrated project with standardized solutions and mass industrial production allied to an innovating design.
