1980
Acesita enters the 80’s with integrated steelmaking project for special steels and a comprehensive production line, supplying material to domestic industries for the manufacturing of home appliances. In September, the first oriented-grain silicon steel coil is rolled for experimentation purposes.
The first team for technical cooperation on oriented-grain silicon steel rolling process travels to Buttler, Pennsylvania, in the United States.

Visit of the President of Brazil, João Batista Figueiredo to Acesita for the kicking off of the Plant’s expansion on 04/29/81.
1983
The Quality Control Circle (QCC) is implemented.
The vertical integration and the use of charcoal as thermo reducer fuel grant Acesita an outstanding international position among the integrated steelworks of the same technological standard.
From 1983 to 1985, new investments will be completed for complementing phase 1 of the new expansion plan.

The selling of mineral ore mines in Itabira to Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) brings a substantial capital increase, making it possible to the Company to complete its expansion process. With that, the production of raw steel surpasses the installed capacity of 600 thou t/year.

1985
The Z-Mill no. 3 starts operation, which increases the stainless steel offer and attends the domestic demand, in addition to make the other units available to produce silicon steels.
The development of an active participation policy in the international market begins. By the second half of the decade, Acesita will cease to be an occasional exporter and, at the end of the 80’s, it will be exporting to 33 countries.

Special Steel exported to the United States.
1988
Record of 768,000 t/year of raw steel, surpassing almost 30% of the nominal installed capacity, which is 600,000 t/year.
Development of new products of non-oriented- and oriented-grain silicon steel.
Completion of the Master Plan related to environment control, air and water pollution control at the Plant.
Forty percent of Acesita’s production is intended for foreign market.
Acesita prepares for its privatization process, which took place in 1992. In Brasilia, a group dedicated to coordinate this process is created, with representatives of the Company, Banco do Brasil, Treasure Department and Federal Privatization Council.

The results surpass 15% of the nominal capacity, showing a 2% yield increase on the stainless steel processing lines and a record on silicon steel production.
