In April, the electric reduction furnace and the Newiges furnace no. 2 for silicon steel plate treatment start operation.
1963
Foundation of the Technical School of Metallurgy, in Timóteo.
Completion of the first phase of the expansion plan, which doubled the Plant’s initial capacity.
The thin and medium bar mills start operation – Demag mill.
1964
Timóteo becomes independent from Coronel Fabriciano on 29th April.
Grennawalt sinter plant starts operation.
The pit crane starts operation.
1965
Official start of stainless steel production.

The Development Master Plan is approved, which sets out the guidelines for the second expansion of the Company, The Plan is financed by Banco do Brasil, through Finep, on an amount of Cr$ 5 billion.
One of the guidelines of the Plan is to make Timóteo an ‘open city’. Therefore, all buildings, leisure and trading centers, health care centers, schools, public safety services and collective transportation services, until then solely administered by Acesita, are transferred to the community and the Town Hall. The houses are sold to the employees on a line of credit basis.
