1951

In September, with the opening of Sá Carvalho Power Plant, Bessemer Melt Shop is started up, kicking off the production of regular and special steels. The first cast is processed in the roughing mill, 24 mm.

Banco do Brasil converts loan credits into partnership becoming the major shareholder, with 78% of the Company’s equity capital.

1952

 

In April, the outstanding manually-operated plate mill starts operation. This equipment, which was imported from the United States, transforms bar rolling sheets into plates. The production, however, is still of regular steel grades.

The manually-operated plate mill starts is inaugurated and the electric blast furnace no. 1 starts up.

The stock control is transferred to Banco do Brasil.

A regional branch office is set up in São Paulo.

1955

 

Acesita starts manufacturing silicon steel plates. A contract for equipment purchase, technical assistance services and patent is signed with Walzwerk Newiges.

In October, the third Sá Carvalho’s power generating battery is inaugurated (18,000 kW).

Acesita has a regional branch office set up in Porto Alegre.

Acesita is declared as a "company of military interest’ to the Country, by federal act issued on 15th October.

1957

 

In October, the Newiges furnace starts operation, the first Latin American facility for the production of electric plates for motors and transformers.

Completion of the 80,000-m³ charcoal bin and the main warehouse building.

Inauguration of the water treatment station.

Acesita aims at maintaining its financial balance and starts its first expansion plan.

1958

 

The forgery area starts producing parts for the automobile industry in line with the policy of the President of Brazil, Juscelino Kubitschek.

Acesita has a regional branch office set up in Recife.

1959

 

Inauguration of the Melt Shop’s Electric Furnace no. 3, with a capacity of 30 t/heat, and of the oxygen plant.

The expansion of the iron casting area enables not only the supplying of the Plant but also the production of parts to be traded in the domestic market.

Pig iron export activities increase in the period, having Japan as one of its main buyers.
